Why pinched nerves and sciatica often don't get better
A pinched nerve isn't a muscle problem — it's a space problem. Somewhere along your spine, a nerve is being compressed or irritated: by a disc, by a misaligned vertebra, by joint inflammation, or by narrowing of the small openings nerves pass through. This is exactly why exercises and massage so often fail to resolve it. They work on the muscles around the problem, but they don't change the structural compression that's irritating the nerve. You can stretch a hamstring forever — if an L5 nerve root is being compressed, the leg pain comes back.

Then we assess your structure: posture analysis, spinal joint motion testing, and the specific orthopaedic and neurological tests that identify which nerve is involved and where it's being compressed.
If imaging is clinically indicated, we have access to EOS technology — an advanced, very low-dose standing scan that shows your spine under real load. It's bulk billed through Medicare, no GP referral required, and it's the difference between guessing and knowing.

Can a chiropractor really fix a pinched nerve?
In most cases where the compression is caused by spinal misalignment, joint restriction or postural loading — yes. We identify exactly where and why the nerve is being compressed, then correct the structural cause. Where the cause is something chiropractic can't address (such as certain severe disc injuries), we'll tell you honestly at the first consultation and point you to the right next step.
How many sessions until sciatica improves?
Most patients feel a meaningful difference within 2–3 sessions. Full resolution depends on how long the nerve has been irritated — recent flare-ups settle faster than compression that's built over years. You'll get an honest, specific timeline after your assessment, not a vague one.
Is it safe to adjust a spine with a pinched nerve?
Safety starts with assessment. We never adjust before we understand your structure — that's the entire point of the examination and imaging-when-indicated approach. Techniques are then selected for your specific situation, including gentle low-force options where appropriate.
Should I see a physio or a chiropractor for a pinched nerve?
They address different things. Physiotherapy primarily works on muscles and movement patterns; chiropractic works on the joint and alignment structure those muscles attach to.
